MENZIES PARK

Public BBQ

A well-used Mount Hawthorn park with a securely gated playground of climbing and play equipment, and no sand underfoot, which many parents count as a win. There is an undercover play area, a good oval that switches between cricket and footy with the season, a covered pavilion suited to events, barbecues, public toilets and outdoor gym equipment around the perimeter. The footy club canteen runs on weekends with sausages and bacon and egg rolls, and takes cards. Two things to know: the slide is very steep and not suited to the youngest children, and while the off-leash dog area is popular and bag dispensers are plentiful, a great many owners do not use them — a brush for your shoes is worth having, as hoses are hard to find. The toilet lights are often out, though the facilities work.
